St. Joseph the Worker

From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

This Web Site is intended to give you an idea of all that happens, all that is available, and all that we would like to see happen to make St. Joseph the Worker a truly vibrant, Christ-centered parish community. You can help.  Involvement is important because involvement creates interest, and interest leads to participation. The Church is not a place but a people, not a sacred building but a living and believing assembly.

Our parish has 1,403 families and about 3,692 souls. The success of a parish is not measured by the number of its parishioners, but by the enthusiasm, joy and commitment of its members. When we serve Our Lord joyfully, more people will want to be a part of us. We became a Stewardship Parish in 1995 in order that parishioners might become more involved. Stewardship is a giving of time, talent and treasure to God and to help others in thanksgiving for all that God has given us.

In March of 1997 we embarked on tithing. Those who tithe pledge to give the first 10% of their income to God (5% to the parish and the other 5% to worthy charities or needs at the option of the donor). God never will be outdone in generosity. Many good things are already happening in our parish because many are giving of themselves.

Most important, to insure continuity in the years ahead, involvement on the part of newer and younger parishioners is essential. None of us, whether we like to hear it or not, will be here forever; however, both our eternal salvation and the future of Christ's Church on earth depends on what we do today. The Catholic Church, of which we are proud to be members, is both a visible assembly and a spiritual community. The Church, because it is human, experiences the same ups and downs that humans experience, but because it is divine it serves as a leaven for human society as it is constantly renewed in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit.

Accept the call and the challenge to be faithful to Jesus and His Church, confident that God will bless and reward you for all that you do in Christ's Name, with the help of His Blessed Mother, making Him better known and loved through St. Joseph the Worker Parish. It all depends on how we cooperate with the grace of God. It is my hope this web site will help us to get to know each other better and to work together more effectively for our own good and for the glory of God.

May God Bless you and us,

Father Donald Birch
